Jolan Kaylax (formerly
Jolan Naberi) is definitely new to the "center seat" in Starlfeet. He is
sometimes unsure of himself and his abilities, and fears above all else the
potential to fail. He is a mostly friendly soul, but is not afraid to stand
up for hiself or his crew. Jolan has a strong loyalty towards the Federation
and what it stands for, and will do nothing short of everything possible
to defend it. |

During his time on Earth
he developed an affinity for musicals, or more specifically operatic compositions.
He also enjoys steaming cups of various flavored teas (with blackberry-mint
being his favorite), and has a collection of books he likes to read while
drinking them. Astronomy was a hobby of his as a boy, though he decided
to go into the Mental Health field as a career. |

Jolan will not tolerate
ignorance for the perpetuation of ignorance. He believes the old saying
that "knowledge is power," and encourages everyone to learn and think for
themselves. Deciet and arrogance are also traits he despises in people. |
| Personal Background |
| Born and raised in the cold climate
surrounding Tenara, Trill, Jolan was raised by two caring parents who spared
no expense in making the lives of their two children fulfilling and full
of meaning. His father, Kral Naberi, worked in one of the urban secondary
schools as a Galactic History teacher while his mother worked in the local
hospital, however his mother died when he was nine years old. In school he enjoyed subjects that revolved around psychology and sociology, and was frequently sought by friends who were going through their own personal problems. When he graduated from school (with excellent marks) he immediately applied for Starfleet Academy and was accepted into the Mental Health Sciences track. It was during this transitional stage that he applied to the Symbiosis Commission and was accepted into the trial program. He suspended his entrance into the Academy in order to compete for a symbiont. After over a year of trials he was approved to carry one, and thus he was combined with the Kaylax symbiont. At first the changes brought on by the joining were relatively unknown, but once he had finally arrived at Starfleet Academy the difference became increasingly obvious. Jolan, who had originally been more withdrawn and introverted, became more and more extroverted. The lives of three previous hosts became more assertive against his own personality, dredging up desires that he had never encountered before (such as longing to try orbital skydiving, which he did between his Freshman and Sophomore years at the Academy). He graduated from the Academy as 13th in his class, and quickly assigned to the USS Crafton, an older Centaur-class cruiser, as the Assistant Counselor. Here he made close friends with members of the Counseling Department, forming close relationships that would last for the next two decades. During the next eighteen years he served on two starships named Britania (NCC 32002 and NCC 32002-A) and Starbase Valhalla. He transferred to the command track while on the Nebula-class Britania-A. When the Commanding Officer of Starbase Valhalla resigned, and its Executive Officer stepped up to replace him, the open XO position was offered to Jolan, who happily accepted it. |
